2020 FIM Oceania Speedway Sidecar Championship cancelled
September 4, 2020 by Gillman Media
COVID-19 restrictions have finally ended any hope of staging the 2020 FIM Oceania Speedway Sidecar Championship at Gillman.
The championship was originally scheduled for 21 March but was postponed to 31 October after the Australian Government banned all gatherings of more than 500 people just a few days before the original date.
The number of people at sporting events has now been raised but state border closures mean riders are not able to travel to Adelaide for the event.
The same applies to the 2020 Australian Sidecar Championship which was to be held at Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura.
Both events will now go down in the history books as “Not Held”.
Providing racing returns to normal for the 2020/21 Australian season Gillman Speedway will hold the 2021 FIM Oceania Speedway Sidecar Championship on Saturday, 17 April 2021, and Mildura will hold the 2021 Australian Sidecar Championship the following weekend, with Qualifying on Friday, 23 April and the Championship on Saturday, 24 April.
