Attention turns to on-track action at Gillman Speedway - October 2015
October 6, 2015 by Gillman Media
After a productive winter which has seen a new wind-break fence erected along the top of the northern and eastern spectator viewing mounds, and a 216 seat grandstand erected along the back straight spectator area, thoughts are now well and truly on on-track action at Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway Stadium.
The professional summer speedway season is now only a month away with Speedway manager David Parker and former international rider Leigh Adams putting together a field of international Solo riders for the Darcy Ward Benefit Meeting on 7 November, but in the meantime the annual Gillman Classic Solo and Sidecar Championships meeting will be held on 1 November, and this Saturday afternoon, 10 October, a winter Flat Track meeting will be held.
Admission to the Flat Track meeting will be just $10 for anyone over 16, and free for those under 16, with free seating in the new grandstand, and manager David Parker says “the 15 rider Pro 450 Final will be worth the $10 entry fee alone!”
The Pro 450 Solos will be the feature class with Mildura’s Nic Waters and Broken Hill’s Logan Coombe the pre-meeting favourites. The other senior classes are the Pro 250 Solos and the Pre 1985 Solos and all three classes will have plenty of interest for Speedway fans with a number of regular speedway riders competing, many of them from the Sidecars ranks with former Australian Champion Mark Mitchell, riders Jesse and Dylan Irwin, and passengers Jack and Mitchell Spear, Jesse Headland, Adam Pascoe and Tom Golding taking on the regular dirt track riders.
There will also be three classes of Junior riders.
Racing will start at 4pm, with each class having four heat rides per rider and a final, with entry via the eastern gate only from 2.30pm.
