Bowes Family Sidecar Cup at Gillman Saturday night
Gillman Media 6 February 2025
Following Rohan Tungate’s thrilling victory over Jaimon Lidsey in the FIM Oceania Solo Championship at the last Gillman Speedway meeting, Sidecars now take over the limelight for the remainder of the season, starting this Saturday night (8 February) with the Bowes Family Sidecar Cup.
The meeting will be the fifth annual Bowes Family Sidecar Cup and spectators are guaranteed to see new winners with none of the previous winners competing.
In their absence Kym Menadue/Shane Dolan have the chance to go one better than last season when they finished second. Menadue, with former passenger Eric Melton, also finished second in the inaugural event in 2021, so might think he is overdue for the win, but it won’t be a simple process with some strong opposition, in particular Shepparton’s Malcolm German, with local passenger Cameron White, and Shane Rudloff and Damian Egan.
Amongst the other competitors, Kane Golding/Hayden Kuchel, Brian Silvy/Glen Zaworski, Adam Pascoe/Mark-John Papastamatis, Aaron Silvy/Jaron Silvy, Byron Mordaunt/Jarrad Katzorke and Thomas Adams/Campbell Stafford are all capable of beating anyone in the line-up, it is just a matter if they can do it consistently throughout the night to get into the all-important final. Like Menadue, the Silvy brothers were also finalists in the inaugural event, while Golding is a former SA number two.
As well as competing for the Bowes Family Cup, the riders are also chasing points for the season long point score (on selected meetings) and with the withdrawal of leaders Josh Pascoe/Greg Black yesterday (with illness), Menadue and Brian Silvy both have the chance to go to the top of the leader board with a good showing.
The meeting is also the last chance to get track time at Gillman before the upcoming South Australian Championship.
The support events are Flat Track Solos, Classic Solos and Sidecars, and 125cc Junior Solos.
Gates open at 4pm and racing starts at 7pm.
For those that can’t attend, the meeting will be livestreamed through the website link [https://www.spacequakesports.com/ppv] for a cost of $25. As always this is the only official livestreaming link. Any other links touted on facebook sites are scams and should be ignored.

Directions:
The best way to get to Gillman Speedway is off Hanson Road.
If you are coming from the eastern and southern suburbs, get on to Hanson road off Torrens Road or Grand Junction Road, travel north on Hanson road over the train line then take the first road on the left, which is Wilkins road.
From the northern suburbs, travel down the Port Adelaide expressway and take the Hanson Road exit. Once on Hanson Road, take the first exit on your right, this is Wilkins road.
From the western suburbs, Wilkins Road is the continuation of Bedford Street, north of Eastern Parade.
For interstate visitors flying into Adelaide and getting a hire car, Gillman is about 20kms, and 30 minutes’ drive (depending on traffic lights) from the airport.
The easiest and most direct way from the airport, if not going to your accommodation first is:
On leaving the airport, turn left onto Sir Donald Bradman Drive. Continue along Sir Donald Bradman Drive until you reach the end of the airport grounds and turn right onto Tapleys Hill Road. Keep going on Tapleys Hill Road until you can’t go any further. That’s Port Road. Turn left onto Port Road (you can only turn left). Continue down Port Road for about 1 km to the first intersection which is Grand Junction road and turn right. Go 700 metres along Grand Junction Road, over a bridge over a railway line. Stay in the left lane because at the bottom of the bridge you turn left into Gray Terrace. Go to the end of Gray Terrace and turn right onto Bedford Street. Keep going on that road until you get to the speedway. About 2km.
Accommodation: There is plenty of accommodation in Adelaide and suburbs, within 20-30 minutes of the Speedway, ranging from five star hotels to caravan parks and backpacker hostels.
