British Sidecar riders at Gillman - September 2013

After recently announcing that a team of young British Solo riders will appear at Gillman Speedway this season, Speedway Manager David Parker has today announced two British Sidecar riders will appear at the opening meeting of the summer season on 9 November (a fortnight after the Classic Championships on 26 October).
The riders are two of Great Britain’s leading Speedway and Grass Track Sidecar riders, Mick Cave and Mark Cossar.
Mick Cave has been one of the top sidecar riders for around 25 years, and has raced all over Europe and also in Australia. He first started as a passenger and then took to the handlebars, and hasn’t looked back since. He has been one of the innovating riders of the sport who is always trying new ideas on the bikes to get the edge on fellow competitors. For the trip to Australia he will be using the latest Yamaha R1 engine, and have Ben Goddard as his passenger.
27-year-old motorcycle mechanic Mark Cossar, has far less experience, having only started riding in 2005, after a season as a passenger in 2004, but has been one of the most successful riders in Britain in recent years, winning both the British Grasstrack Masters and the British Speedway Sidecar Championship three times.
In last season’s British Masters Grasstrack title, Cossar became the first rider since the coveted event began in 1951 to go through the entire race card unbeaten. He defends his title this weekend, and will fly out to Australia on 2 November, with passenger Daz Whetstone.
The opening meeting will be sponsored by Eagle Fuels and will also include several Victorian riders.
