Darrin Treloar sporting Darcy Ward’s colours at Gillman Saturday night - November 2015

Not only will Sydney’s Darrin Treloar be making the near 3,000 km round trip to ride in the Darcy Ward Benefit Meeting at Gillman Speedway on Saturday night, but the eight-time Australian Champion will also be sporting Ward’s colours in a touching tribute to the badly injured Aussie ace.
Treloar has engaged the always passionate Jeff Byron, from Design EFX, to paint and sticker an entire set of panels for his bike in the same colour and design as Ward’s kevlars and everyone will agree with Treloar when he says “Jeff’s done a fantastic job, the bike looks fantastic “.
Treloar took the wraps off the new #43 livery at his Granville workshop yesterday and revealed his deep and profound respect for Darcy’s talent and his plight. “I’ve watched Darcy’s progression from a junior to the senior ranks over the years and admired his obvious natural talent and determination. What has happened with his crash has been tragic and has affected us all. It’s important we all get behind him now in any way we can, and I wanted to make a statement on behalf of all the sidecar community that shows our respect for Darcy and his situation.”
After the meeting on Saturday night, the individual pieces of the outfit’s bodywork will go onto e-bay to raise more money for Darcy’s rehabilitation. “I hope that the bidding goes well so we can raise as much money on our behalf as possible towards Darcy’s recovery” said Treloar.
As far as the actual race meeting goes, Treloar says spectators will be in for something quite spectacular.
“I know David Parker and Leigh Adams have assembled a top line-up of Solos, but the Sidecars really are close to the best of the best. Seven of the eight riders rode in the semi-final and final of last season’s Australia Championship, and the eighth rider is Mark Mitchell, who beat me in a run-off to win the Australian Championship a few years ago, so it is no exaggeration to say fans will basically be watching ten Australian Championship finals!”
For spectators who want to get a closer look at the artwork on Treloar’s bike, there is free access to the pits from 4pm until approximately 6.30pm.
