Darrin Treloar to ride in Gillman Speedway Classic meeting - September 2014
September 18, 2014 by Gillman Media
Eight-times Australian Speedway Sidecar champion Darrin Treloar is a surprise entry for this year’s Gillman Speedway Classic Championships meeting to be held in Adelaide on Saturday night, 25 October.
Treloar, Australia’s most successful Sidecar competitor, will be riding the lowliner bike previously raced by his late father, Garry, who passed away in June.
“Dad and I always talked about how good it would be to restore his old bike and give it a run. He came to Gillman with me many times and I thought the annual Classic meeting at Gillman would be the perfect place to ride the bike.”
Treloar will ride in the combined Post Classic/Evolution class, one of three Sidecar classes on the programme. The other classes are the British/European/American class, and the Japanese class.
The Solos will also have three classes — the JAP/ESO class, the 2 Valve class and the Evolution (4 valve) class. The JAP/ESO class is for riders aged 45 or over (lowered from 50 last year); and the 2 Valve class is for riders aged over 30, or not a current rider.
Nominations are through the ‘on-line’ entry form on the Nomination page of the Gillman Speedway website, and will close on Monday, 13 October 2014. Riders are requested to put the engine type and capacity in the comments section of the entry form.
The Gillman Classic Championships meeting also pays tribute to a former speedway personality each year it is legendary Claremont Speedway promoter Con Migro. As in past years there will be a BBQ at the stadium on the Friday night (24 October) with Con and many of the interstate riders and supporters present. The BBQ is open to all speedway fans.
