August 31, 2013 by Gillman Media
Entries are now being accepted for the annual Gillman Classic Championships meeting which will be held on Saturday night, 26 October 2013.
The Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms can be found on the Nominations Tab on the Gillman Speedway website.
As per the Supplementary Regulations all entries must go the Jeff Fisher, and entries close with the last mail on Monday, 7 October 2013. Late entries may not be accepted, and if accepted will attract an additional entry fee.
Provided the minimum of five entries per class being received the classes will be Solo JAP/ESO (Riders aged 50 or over); 2 valve, 4 valve; Sidecar British & European, Japanese, Post Classic. There will also be demonstration runs by the Three Quarter Midgets from the 1950s and 60s.
The highlight of the meeting this year could be the British Sidecars if all the rumoured starters nominate. At the last count there was the possibility there will be 4 Vincents and 2 880 JAPS racing.
This season’s meeting also doubles as a tribute meeting for 1973 Australian Sidecar Champion, Neil Munro, and one lucky person will get the chance to do some demonstration laps on the back of Munro’s former bike, the Vincent pictured above, with another former Australian Champion, Ken Walker, as the rider.
Research has started for the souvenir programme but the speedway management are having difficulty finding photos of Neil Munro during the early part of his career in the 1960s, and would be pleased to get some high resolution scans of photos from anyone who may have some.
A ‘meet the riders’ BBQ will be held at the Gillman venue on Friday 25 October, commencing at 7.00 p.m.
