Gillman practice this Sunday; good nominations for first winter meeting on 19 July - July 2014
July 1, 2014 by Gillman Media
The regular monthly practice day will take place Sunday morning (6 July), weather permitting, and at the moment no rain is forecasted for Sunday.
A fortnight later, on Saturday 19 July, Gillman will be staging a full meeting, and with still just under two weeks to go before nominations close, there is a good number of entries, and a good variety of classes — at the time of going to press there are 63 nominations over 9 classes.
13 Modern Sidecars have entered including star riders Mick Headland/Jesse Headland and Damien Niesche/Mitchell Spear.
“To get 13 modern sidecars at this time of the year is pretty impressive” said Speedway Manager Dave Parker, “and we have managed to get full grids for each of classic sidecar classes as well.”
The Solos should produce some close racing between Robert Medson and Mildura’s Jack Fallon and Brodie Waters; likewise the 250cc class which has a good line-up of Cooper Riordan, Declyn Adams, Dakota Ballantyne, Jaimon Lidsey and Mitchell Grech.
The biggest number of bikes is in the Dirt Track Solo class with 17 riders. “They should be pretty entertaining” said Parker, “and I know Shane Parker will have his eyes on them to see if there is any talent we can bring into the Speedway Solo class in the future”.
Admission for spectators to watch the 19 July meeting will be $10 with full bar and catering with plenty of hot food and drinks available. Racing will start at around 12 midday and, with 60+ entries, is expected the take up the full afternoon.
