Gillman Speedway Stadium seals new partnership with Downer - June 2013

The facilities continue to improve at Adelaide’s progressive Gillman Speedway Stadium thanks to a new sponsorship contract with Downer, a leading engineering and infrastructure services company with a long and strong South Australian footprint.
“When Downer offered support by bitumen surfacing the pit area down to the race track, we had an offer we just could not refuse”, says Speedway Manager David Parker.
“A wet and muddy, or dry and dusty pit area will be a thing of the past at Gillman Speedway, thanks to the generous support of Downer. It will make this area safer and more comfortable for all for many years to come.”
Downer Infrastructure will be manufacturing the hot mixed asphalt from its new facility at Wingfield.
The new state of the art plant has the capacity to manufacture environmentally friendly products that are at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the road infrastructure sector (using high quality recycled material and Warm Mixed Asphalt technology).
This will consolidate the company’s position as a responsible supporter of the local communities in which Downer works.
Downer will be a long term sponsor of Gillman Speedway Stadium and both organisations are proud of this exciting new partnership.
In preparation, civil construction works will also be undertaken. This involves constructing a pavement and placing sumps into the pits and infield for improved drainage.
“We have been lucky with our summer racing season”, said Parker, “but the rain gives us some testing moments for some of the winter practice days, and quite often it is the pit area which is more affected by the rain than the track itself. With these new sumps, plus the bitumen surface, we will go a long way to minimising the chances of any rain-offs in the future.
Work has already started in preparation for the bitumen surfacing and is expected to be complete in five weeks.
