International Speedway Masters to honour Darrin Treloar
Power Production Media Release 22 May 2024
The world’s greatest ever sidecar rider, Darrin Treloar, will be honoured at the upcoming International Speedway Masters being staged at Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway Stadium.
The two-night speedway super show, being held on December 27 and 28, features the sport’s elite sidecar riders, from numerous countries, on night one followed by a galaxy of international solo stars, also representing several nations, on night two.
As a tribute to Darrin Treloar’s remarkable career, riders on night one will contest the Darrin Treloar Cup, competing for the richest prizemoney on offer in Australian speedway sidecar racing this coming season.
The Darrin Treloar Cup will complement the recently announced Leigh Adams Medal (being staged on night two, December 28).
“Everyone in the sport acknowledges that Darrin is sidecar racing’s greatest ever competitor and it is unlikely his record will ever be matched, let alone surpassed,” said event organiser David Tapp.
“It is highly appropriate that Darrin be honoured in this fashion, given his incredible contribution to the sport over more than 40 years”.
Meantime, Darrin Treloar, an eleven-time Australian Champion, says he’s humbled to have such an honour bestowed upon him.
“It’s humbling that all the best guys in the sport will be racing for the Darrin Treloar Cup. It means a lot to me and it goes without saying I badly want to win the meeting.
“Next summer will be my forty first consecutive season racing as a competitor and I still have more to do. I’m still challenged and motivated by the sport I love, so I’m as determined as ever to remain highly competitive and win as many major meetings as I can”.
In addition to winning eleven Australian Championships, Darrin Treloar’s glittering career has also amassed victories in the 2011 World Championship and multiple Gold Medals in the Oceania Championship and FIM World Cup. He has also won in excess of forty State Championships in what has been a record breaking career.
Treloar will spearhead a world class field of riders contesting the December 27 opening night of the International Speedway Masters.
It is expected that riders from four countries will do battle for the Darrin Treloar Cup, in an event certain to provide all the glitz and glamour that such an occasion demands.
In addition, a special range of Darrin Treloar Cup commemorative merchandise will be produced to celebrate the occasion.
