Jason Doyle the first signing for the World Cup fundraiser at Gillman
August 25, 2016 by Gillman Media
Gillman Speedway is pleased to announce the first signing for the October 29 World Cup fundraising meeting is Jason Doyle, currently equal second in the World Championship standings.
Former Australian Champion Doyle returned 17 points in the most recent Grand Prix in Malilla, Sweden to go joint-second in the World Championship standings with defending, and double world champion, Tai Woffinden, just 12 points behind triple world champion Greg Hancock.
So there is some chance Doyle will be World Champion when he appears at Gillman in October, although he admits it will be a tough ask.
“Five years ago, if someone said I’d be joint-second in the world, I would have laughed it off. Becoming world champion is going to be a difficult task, but I’ve had a lot of good people around me and am really enjoying my speedway at the moment.
“I had a good season in the Grand Prix last year and finished fifth. I was over the moon with that. This year everything is working at the moment but it’s such a small gap between second and third through to seventh. It’s going to be a very difficult year, but I’m still enjoying it.”
“To say I am over the moon to sign Jason for Gillman is an understatement” said Speedway Manager Dave Parker.
“Jason is one of the fastest riders in the world and is scoring huge points in all his league meetings in the UK, Sweden and Poland and of course sits in equal second place in the SGP behind the legendary Greg Hancock.”
Australia’s Team Manager overseas, Mark Lemon, added, “Jason is a racer, so I know he will want to win this event. He is probably the best rider in the world at the moment and will give the World Championship a big shake this year, so it is great to be able to get him to ride. It will be huge”.
Darcy Ward also said “That’s great that Jason is riding, I can’t wait to come down and be a part of this fantastic event and say hi to all the people who supported my meeting at the same time last season”.
In further news, David Parker announced “Not only has Jason agreed to race at this meeting, he will also be doing a rider training camp on the day with 10 times National Champion Leigh Adams, and details of that, and how riders can take part will be on the Gillman Speedway website soon.”
So the signings have started, keep October 29 free and like you did for the Darcy Ward event last year, don’t forget to bring a new friend to the speedway.
