Gillman Speedway is pleased to announce the first signing for the Australian World Team Cup Benefit Meeting, to be held at Gillman on November 4, is Australia’s leading international rider over the last two years, Jason Doyle, who is currently second in the World Championship standings.
“This is a great boost for the fundraising meeting, but no surprise to me that Jason would be the first rider to sign for the meeting” said Speedway Manager David Parker when making the announcement.
“Although Jason is one of the busiest riders in the World, competing in the Polish, Swedish and British Leagues, as well as the Speedway Grand Prix series, often under extreme duress such as in recent weeks when he has continued to race despite being on crutches with a broken foot, he has always been a great supporter of domestic speedway in Australia.”
Australia’s Team Manager Mark Lemon added, “We are very excited about Jason being able to ride in the Benefit Meeting. He is one of the World’s best riders so we could not have asked for a better first signing for this event. Jason was also the first rider to sign for the inaugural running of the event last season, although he was ultimately unable to ride because of serious injuries he suffered in a crash a few weeks before the event, but it shows his commitment to the Australian team”.
The inaugural benefit meeting last season raised in excess of $16,000 to aid the Australian senior and under 21 teams to contest their respective World Cups in Europe, and Gillman is looking to raise a similar amount on November 4 for the 2018 campaigns.
In the meantime negotiations are continuing with other international riders and David Parker is hopeful further overseas-based riders will be signed in the next few weeks to make the event a true international Solo event not to be missed.
