Marker Brothers Sidecar Cup cancelled
Gillman Media 26 February 2025
There is bad news for Adelaide speedway fans this week with the Markers Brothers Sidecar Cup, scheduled for Gillman Speedway this Saturday night (1 March), cancelled.
Gillman has generally been well supported by riders over the years, but this week has fallen foul of a problem that seems to be rife in both bike and car tracks around Australia in recent years, a lack of nominations. Sidecar events have been particularly hard hit in recent weeks with the cancellation of the prestigious Jeff Gittus Memorial in Perth this Saturday night, and also the cancellation of another prestigious event, the Gates Family Cup in Mildura a couple of weeks ago. At least Mildura have an opening to reschedule the Gates Cup which will now be on March 8, subject, of course, to sufficient nominations!
With the cancellation of the Marker Brothers Cup, Gillman now has only two more meetings before the 2024/25 season ends — the Bob White Cup on March 15 and the FIM Oceania Sidecar Championship on March 29.
The Bob White Cup meeting will also be the final round of the season point score which is (unofficially) being led by Brian Silvy and Glen Zaworski. The top five scorers are currently Silvy/Zaworski on 84 points, Trent Headland/Jaxon Rayner 73, Josh Pascoe/Greg Black 73, Max Howse/Riley Commons (NSW) 68 and Justin Plaisted/Damian Egan 67. With Greg Black now out injured after last Saturday night’s alarming crash, and Justin Plaisted still out injured from a crash earlier in the season, the winner looks like to come from Silvy/Zaworski, Headland/Rayner or Howse/Commons, if they ride.
