Mitchell/Golding win season finale at Gillman - April 2014
April 25, 2014 by Gillman Media
Mark Mitchell and Tom Golding won the season finale at Gillman Speedway tonight.
The meeting, which was held to raise funds for injured Kiwi passenger Philippa Burns, was decided on heat points after heavy rain caused the final to be cancelled.
After an entertaining night’s racing, Mitchell and Golding finished unbeaten on 15 points, but only won by 1 point from Warren Monson/Matt Morgan who finished on 14. Although the final was cancelled, there was a final of sorts in that the unbeaten Mitchell and Monson met in the last heat, heat 20. Mitchell jumped straight into the lead in the deciding heat and led all the way, with Monson no threat as he took two laps to get past Rick Stephens/Darcy Risstrom.
Third place in the meeting went to Arron Hartwig/Teagan Hartwig with 13 points, and fourth to Jason Hardy/Adam Pascoe with 9.
Despite the apparent dominance of the top three scorers, there was very little between all the riders, and ten different riders scored heat wins with plenty of close racing and passing moves.
Robert Branford went unbeaten in the division one Solo races, despite strong challenges by Jack Fallon; and Seth Hickey top scored in Division 2, dropping just one point to Garry Fischer.
