New Australian Solo Champion makes a quick return to Gillman - January 2016

Newly crowned Australian Solo Champion, 19-year-old Brady Kurtz, from Cowra in New South Wales, will make a quick return to Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway after winning round three of the championship at Gillman last Friday night before then sealing overall victory in Mildura on Sunday.

Kurtz will now attempt to win his first Australian Under 21 Championship at Gillman on Saturday night, 23 January, just under a fortnight away.

But although he is now the National Champion, winning the Under 21 title will be no easy task.

Amongst his opponents will be Australia #3, and winner of the past three Under 21 titles, Max Fricke. Fricke will be attempting to win a fourth consecutive title, a feat only achieved once before, by Chris Holder who went on to win the World Championship in 2012, just four years after his last Under 21 victory.

Also competing will be Australia #7 Jack Holder, who was the runner-up to Fricke last season (splitting Fricke and Kurtz), and the other finalist last season, Jake Allan from Queensland, who equalled Fricke’s score in the heats but was then excluded from the final after he and Fricke fell.

In the support programme 16 of Australia’s best riders will compete for the Australian Under 16 250cc Championship, including another rider from Cowra in New South Wales, Matthew Gilmore, who won the 2015 Speedway Youth World Cup in France, and Townsville’s Brody Eves who finished seventh in the Youth World Cup.
