Former International rider Shane Parker has been announced as the captain of the Gillman Select team to meet the touring Boocock Young Lions team from Great Britain at Gillman Speedway on Friday night, 7 December.
Recently appointed team manager for the Gillman team, ten-times Australian Champion Leigh Adams, when asked by Gillman Speedway Manager David Parker who would be the best person to captain the Gillman side, said without hesitation “Shane Parker without question”, and David Parker is pleased to report Shane (no relation) has accepted the appointment.
David said “Shane no longer competes in the British League and has taken up a full time job in his home town of Adelaide, and is now enjoying his “semi-retirement” from racing, but he is itching to get back on the track against his old foes from Britain”.
Shane added: “I am sure it is going to be a great night and to be given the honour of captaining the Gillman Select team is a job I know I can do, which is keeping those points turning over and getting the best out of the rest of the team with advice and confidence. I’m sure we will get the job done on the night and send the visitors on their way with their tails between their legs”.
The remainder of the team will be announced closer to the event, but with Leigh Adams and Shane Parker on board, Gillman already has the makings of a great team.
