Treloar and Moon in Adelaide for the Bob White Cup
Gillman Media 9 February 2023
11-time Australian Sidecar Champion Darrin Treloar, and passenger Blake Cox, are heading to Adelaide for the first time this season to contest the annual Bob White Cup event at Gillman Speedway on Saturday night (11 February).
Treloar and Cox won the first three stagings of the event before missing last year’s meeting when their trailer broke en route to Adelaide from Sydney.
Current Queensland Champions Tyler Moon and Adam Lovell, from Townsville, will also return to Adelaide for their second visit this season, while Max Howse/Riley Commons, Rick Stephens/Nick O'Brien and Jake Treloar/Eli Wright (NSW), and Byren Gates/Michael O'Loughlin and Chris Walker/Eric Melton (Vic) round out a strong interstate contingent. Howse, Moon and Gates finished second, third and fourth respectively in the recent Bowes Family Sidecar meeting at Gillman.
The standout local pair will be defending titleholders Mark Mitchell and Tony Carter, but there is little to separate the other local riders as was seen at the last meeting when seven of the ten riders won heats. The most successful of the other riders in this event in the past has been Damien Niesche who finished as runner-up to Treloar in 2020 and 2021. Shane Rudloff is also a past finalist, while, of the interstate rider Rick Stephens is a two-time finalist and Byren Gates was third last season.
All riders, including those in the support races, will want to be at their best to enhance their chances of selection for the forthcoming state championship.
The 250cc Junior Sidecar riders will also be competing for a Bob White Cup, in memory of the former Sidecar rider and Gillman Speedway official, on the 111 metre infield track, with riders from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
There will also be other support events for Flat Track Solos, Classic Sidecars and Solos and 125cc Junior Solos. The Classics are on the program as this meeting has also been chosen to acknowledge this season as the 50th anniversary season of the Speedway Riders Association of South Australia.
As with every meeting this season, those that can’t attend will be able to watch the livestreaming through the website link below. Please note this is the only official livestreaming link, any others touted on facebook sites are scams.
