Two championships for the price of one at next Gillman Speedway meeting
Gillman Media 11 February 2024
Patrons at the next Gillman Speedway meeting (Saturday, 24 February) will now get two championships for the price of one.
The Safe Fire Electrical South Australian Sidecar Championship was already scheduled but with 27 nominations to date, and still a week before nominations close, Gillman has decided to add an SA Division 2 Sidecar Championship for the riders who do not qualify for the Safe Fire Electrical main event.
The qualification process has also been decided by the Motorcycle South Australia Sports Manager and is as follows: the top four available riders from last season’s championship will be seeded and all other riders will have 2 one lap time trials to qualify.
At the moment that means time trials for 23 riders and to accommodate that number of riders, the gates will open at 2pm, with qualifying at 4pm and the championship racing starting at the normal time of 7pm.
The SA Championship will be staged over the regular format of 16 riders over 20 heats, a last chance semi-final and a final.
The Division 2 Championship will also have a semi-final and final, but the number of heats won’t be known until nominations close on February 18. Nominations are updated daily on the Gillman Speedway website.
Admission prices remain at Adults $25, Age Pension and Student Concession $20, Children Under 16 free. Parking free. Programme $5-including two chances to win $50 fuel vouchers, and livestreaming will be available [https://www.spacequakesports.com/ppv] for $25.
