Vincent HRD Sidecars at Gillman Speedway Classic Meeting - October 2014
October 6, 2014 by Gillman Media
The popular Vincent HRD Sidecars will again feature at the Gillman Speedway Classic Championships meeting in just less than three weeks’ time (on Saturday, 25 October).
The Vincents will be part of a strong line-up of British powered machines which will include the 750 Triumph of Clinton Crabb, and the Norton of Geoff Baran.
With a week until nominations close, three Vincents have so far entered for the meeting, all coming over from Melbourne.
Two of the bikes are owned by former Melbourne Speedway rider Jon Heaviside (former Victorian rider) and will be ridden by two of his opponents in his riding days, Peter Tolley and Doug Cotterell
The other bike is the Kev McEnroe Vincent which competed at Rowley Park, originally in the hands of Bruce Kelley and then Kev McEnroe. McEnroe’s son Rory has restored the bike and will ride it at Gillman.
Other classes on the programme will be JAP/ESO Solos for riders aged over 45 years, 2 valve Solos, 4 valve Solos, Japanese engined Sidecars, Post Classic/Evolution Sidecars and Three Quarter Midgets.
The gates will open at 4 pm and there is free access to the pits for several hours to get a close-up look at the bikes before racing starts at 7.30 pm. Racing should finish at 10.30 pm.
There will also be a social event, open to the public, on the Friday night (24 October), with BBQ and drinks available for a nominal fee. This year’s tribute person, former Claremont Speedway (WA) promoter Con Migro will be at the BBQ as will a number of the interstate riders.
