23-year-old Tai Woffinden, the former Western Australian Junior Speedway rider now riding for Great Britain, his country of birth, has won the 2013 World Championship after only five heats of the Grand Prix of Poland in Torun tonight.
Woffinden started with a conservative third place behind, Niels-Kristian Iversen and Darcy Ward in heat three, after passing eventual fourth placegetter Martin Vaculik on the last lap.
His only threat for the championship, Jarek Hampel then won heat four before they met in heat five with the best possible result for Woffinden.
Woffinden raced away for a comfortable win, while Polish wildcard Adrian Miedzinski relegated Hampel to third place which meant Woffinden could not be beaten for the championship.
