March 5, 2016 by Gillman Media
With the 2016 FIM Speedway Sidecar World Cup, and the FIM Oceania Sidecar Championship, coming up at Gillman Speedway, the major Sidecar events will continue at the Adelaide venue next season with the track chosen by Motorcycling Australia to stage the 2017 Australian Sidecar Championship.
The Qualifying meeting will be on Saturday, 15 April 2017 and the Championship Final on Sunday, 16 April. And like this year the Gillman organisers are planning to run on Good Friday. This year they will have the Festival of Speed, featuring static displays of current and historic speedway bikes and cars, but next year a race meeting is planned, tentatively the Gillman Flat Track and Speedway Masters.
By announcing the dates twelve months in advance it means spectators travelling from interstate for the World Cup can re-book their rooms for next season while they are here.
For Solo fans, Gillman will once again host a round of the Australian Solo Championship, and next year it will be the opening round on Wednesday, 4 January, with Tuesday, 3 January reserved for a Qualifying meeting if required.
In all, 17 meetings are pencilled in for the 2016/17 season which will start with the annual Classic meeting on Saturday, 15 October 2016. As well as the regular feature events such as the State and track championships, the promotion are attempting to bring several international events to the track, so keep watching the Gillman Speedway websites for further announcements over the winter months.
