The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) in Geneva has officially announced Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway Stadium as the venue for the 2017 FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Cup.
Gilman staged the inaugural event last season and after receiving glowing reports from the overseas FIM officials, the Gillman promoters were hopeful of getting the event again this season.
Speedway Manager Dave Parker said “We knew we had a strong chance of getting this event again, but like everything, you just don’t know who or what country has also put their hand up for this event. But now it has been confirmed it is full steam ahead.
“The World Cup will be held on Saturday night, 8 April, and will be followed by the Oceania Championship the next night, Sunday 9 April.
“And just one week later we will be hosting the Australian Sidecar Championship making 8-16 April the biggest week in Australian Sidecar Speedway history. The national championship weekend will start with the Festival of Speed static displays of current and classic Speedway bikes and cars; and other motorsport classes on Good Friday, 14 April, followed by the Australian Championship Qualifying Meeting on Saturday night, 15 April and the Championship final on Sunday night, 16 April.”
In further good news, fans heading to Adelaide for the week can get a special room rate at the Pavlos Motel (859 Main North Road, Pooraka, SA). They are offering queen rooms for $95/night on a weekly rate. Contact details are tel: (08) 8260 6655, email: pavlosmotel@bigpond.com. Their website is www.pavlosmotel.com.au.
