South Australian Championships allocated to Gillman Speedway - May 2016
May 25, 2016 by Gillman Media
The 2016/17 South Australian Solo and Sidecar Championships have been allocated to Gillman Speedway in Adelaide, and will be held over the Christmas/New Year period, either side of the opening round of the CBS Bins Australian 500cc Solo Championship.
The Littlehampton Bricks South Australian Solo Championship will be held on a Wednesday night, 28 December. This has been a popular date for the championship in the past and attracted the biggest crowd for this event in many years when held on that date in 2104. With the first round of the CBS Bins Australian Solo Championship just a week later (also on a Wednesday night, 4 January) a number of the international riders are expected to ride in the SA Championship as they did in last season’s event which was won by New South Wales rider Rohan Tungate ahead of Max Fricke and Sam Masters, who went on to fill three of the top four positions in the Australian Championship.
If a Qualifying meeting is required for the Australian Championship it will be held on Tuesday night, 3 January.
The Sailun Tyres South Australian Sidecar Championship will be held on Saturday night, 7 January, just three nights after the Australian Solo Championship, which should make Adelaide an enticing prospect for a Christmas holiday that week. The SA Sidecar Championship is always one of the toughest Sidecar events in Australia, with a line-up comparable with the national championship, and 2016/17 should be no exception with riders wanting to impress selectors for the Australian Championship which will also be held at Gillman later in the season. Last season’s State Championship attracted 26 nominations which necessitated a qualifying event in the afternoon with the championship heats in the evening.
