Gillman Speedway organisers have announced the timetable for 2016 FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Cup to be held at the stadium at Easter, including a social day at the track on Good Friday
The festivities will start on Thursday night 24 March with the Official practice for the FIM World Cup. Gates will open at 3pm and practice will start at 6pm. There will be no practice on race day.
The 2016 FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Cup will be on the Saturday night (26 March) and the FIM Oceania Sidecar Championship will be on the Sunday night (27 March).
On Good Friday (25 March) the club will have a social day at the track which it is calling a “Festival of Speed”.
“We want to give the patrons who will be traveling to the event plenty of things to do on what would otherwise be a quiet day,” said speedway manager David Parker.
“We will have a display of current and classic speedway vehicles at the stadium, not just Sidecars, but Solos and all classes of speedway cars including Sprintcars, Speedcars, Formula 500s, Three Quarter Midgets, Wingless Sprints, Stockcars and many more.
“The canteen and bar will be open and we will have a bbq lunch available as well. We are in the process of finalising a few other festivities, but on a day where most things around the city will be closed, it should be a fun day meeting the riders and drivers and looking at some fantastic machinery.
“Also we will have plenty of souvenirs available to purchase, and I should add, both the practice on Thursday and the social day on Friday will be free entry, which will make it even more appealing, so hopefully fans can now book their flights and accommodation with the knowledge they will have four days of fun and excitement to look forward to without breaking the bank.”
