State of Origin comes to Gillman Speedway
August 12, 2018 by Gillman Media
Gillman Speedway and Blackchrome are proud to announce a brand new concept in Sidecar racing.
The new event will be the Blackchrome State of Origin Sidecar Cup, and will be a Teams format with riders from WA, Vic, NSW, Qld, SA and NZ.
“We really want to embrace the State of Origin format” said Blackchrome managing director Mark Bassett, “with the top riders from around Australasia paired together and riding as teams. I’m sure it will be a great spectacle”.
Six of Australia’s best Teams will tough it out as well as a team already confirmed from New Zealand, Andrew Buchanan and Jamie Moohan.
“When Dave (Parker) told me about the concept, I jumped at the idea and contacted Jamie” said Andrew. “We both love the Gillman track and I think we have a good chance of taking the meeting out and ruffling a few Aussie feathers”.
The date will be March 23 and will be a part of a month of non-stop action at the Gillman stadium, including the State Sidecar Championship, the FIM Oceania Sidecar Championship and the FIM 1000cc Speedway Sidecar World Cup (subject to final FIM approval).
“I am looking for the best of the best from each State” said Gillman Manager Dave Parker. “To get the Kiwis on board is the first piece of the puzzle, now for another six teams”.
