English riders to compete for Jack Young Cup at Gillman
October 31, 2019 by Gillman Media
Three English Solo riders – Dan Bewley, Kyle Bickley and Tom Brennan – lead the early nominations for the Jack Young Cup at the opening Gillman Speedway meeting on Saturday, 9 November.
As well as attempting to win the Cup, named after the local former World Champion and Australian Sporting Hall of Famer, the riders are hoping a good showing in the Cup will enhance their chances of earning selection for the inaugural FIM Oceania Championship, also at Gillman, on 23 November. With nominations for the Oceania Championship closing on 7 November, the results of the Jack Young Cup may be a deciding factor in the final line-up.
Bewley, aged 20, was the 2018 British Under-19 Champion, and now rides for the famous Manchester-based Belle Vue Aces, where he is a team-mate of Australia’s 2020 Grand Prix rider Max Fricke.
Brennan, aged 18, rides for the Eastbourne Eagles and was very impressive during the 2019 British season before a broken leg ruled him out for later stages of the season. Eastbourne have recently announced they have resigned him for 2020, with Eagles director Ian Jordan saying: “He is a fantastic prospect and is surely destined for the top of the sport.”
Bickley is only 17 but had an outstanding junior career and this season rode for the Glasgow Tigers, and also for Belle Vue’s second team, the Colts.
The opening meeting will also feature the Gillman Sidecar Championship.
