Jack Young Cup at Gillman Speedway this Saturday night
After a month break because of Government Covid-19 restrictions, action returns to Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway on Saturday night (12 December) when the venue stages the annual Jack Young Solo Cup.
The event commemorates Flinders Park born Young, who won the World Individual Speedway Championship in 1951 and 52, and was the first rider from any country to successful defend the championship, and at the same time the first rider to win the championship twice, and remains the only South Australian who has ever won.
With border restrictions eased, the Cup has attracted several Victorian riders including international riders Justin Sedgmen and Jordan Stewart who will be two of the favourites along with local riders Dakota Ballantyne and Fraser Bowes. Sedgmen has won the event twice before and is the only former winner in the line-up.
Sidecars and Flat Track Solos are also included on the 41 event programme plus the under 16 Solo riders will compete on the infield track during the track grades.
Patrons should note gates will open an hour earlier than usual, at 4pm, to allow for any delays because of the mandatory QR code check in. Racing will start at 7pm.
This is the last meeting before Christmas with the next meeting, the Gillman Solo Spectacular featuring Jason Crump, on Monday 28 December. The South Australian Sidecar Championship which was scheduled for that night will now be held on 27 February.
