Another Treloar family double at Gillman Speedway
by Gillman Media, 28 March 2021
Father and son Darrin and Jake Treloar maintained their stangleholds on their respective Bob White Sidecar Cups at Gillman Speedway last Saturday night when both won for the third consecutive time.
In the senior event Darrin Treloar and Blake Cox cruised through the night without any challenges.
Heat 19 looked like it would be an indicator if anyone could challenge Treloar in the final when it brought together Treloar/Cox, Mark Plaisted and Ben Pitt, who were also unbeaten on 12 points at that stage, and Mark Mitchell/Tony Carter and Damien Nesche/Ayrton Canning who were both on 11, but they couldn’t offer any significant opposition,
The final brought together Treloar, Plaisted and Niesche again, but with Shane Rudloff/Scott Morris the other starters after winning the last chance semi-final, and again Treloar/Cox cruised to victory. All the excitement was behind them in the battle for second, third and fourth.
Treloar started from one, and Plaisted from two, and Plaisted was still alongside Treloar going into turn two, but being high allowed Niesche to get under him down the back straight. When Niesche passed Plaisted, Plaisted clipped the fence and reared but recovered quickly enough to attempt an outside pass on Niesche at the end of the lap but the two bikes again collided and this time Plaisted slowed and dropped to last place, Although Niesche gradually made up ground on Treloar to at least make it a close finish there were no passing moves and the final result was Treloar-Niesche-Rudloff-Plaisted.
Racing was a lot closer in the Junior Sidecars and after six rides each, Jake Treloar/Isaac Mitchell and Jackson Milner/Adam Niesche were tied on 14 points each, with Treloar/Mitchell taking the Cup by virtue of four heat wins to two. Local newcomers Lachlan Coppen/Caileb Westover finished third with 7 points, and although they never beat Treloar or Milner they were well and truly in the mix in most heats in what was an impressive debut.
With no handicap races the 500cc Solo support events were fairly straight forward with Steve Graetz winning all four heats and Nicholas Possingham winning the first three Encourage races before being a non-starter in the fourth.
Racing was closer in the Flat Track Solo events. Nigel Sadler won all four Group 1 races, but Logan Coombe, Seane Chapman and Roy Stout had some exciting scraps for the minor placings; and similarly in Group 2 Sean Curtis, Brad Lawler and Daniel Low had some close racing even though Low managed to win three of the four heats.
In the 125cc Junior Solo events, Ashley Jansen-Batchelor won Group 1 with 11points, ahead of Kobi Canning (8) and Harry Sadler (7), and Allegra Laanekorb (10) won Group 2 ahead of Ben Dixon (6) and Seth Pascoe (5).
