Solo stars return to Gillman Speedway on Saturday night
by Gillman Media 28 January 2021
The 500cc Solo stars return to Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway on Saturday night (30 January) for a second Solo Spectacular.
Following the successful staging of a similar event in December, South Australian business Adelaide Hills Business Park were quick to suggest a second Spectacular as a replacement event for the previously advertised Australian Under-21 and FIM Oceania Speedway Championships which have been postponed by the respective controlling bodies, Motorcycling Australia and FIM Oceania, due to uncertainly around COVID-19 border restrictions.
Most of the leading riders from this pandemic-affected season, including three-time World Champion Jason Crump, and 2018 Australian Champion Rohan Tungate, who is making his only appearance here this season, are here for what will most likely be the last major Solo event in Adelaide this summer.
Newly crowned South Australian Champion Ryan Douglas is also back for his last appearance before returning to Queensland, along with Victorian Champion Justin Sedgmen and most of the other riders from the top half of the SA Championship, including fourth-placed Jordan Stewart, semi-finalists Fraser Bowes, Jack Morrison and Dakota Ballantyne, plus Declan Knowles, who only missed a semi-final berth on countback, and current Queensland Under 21 champion Jacob Hook.
Gates will open at 4pm, racing will start at 7pm, and as well as the Solo Spectacular there will be support events for Sidecars, 250cc Solos and 125cc Solos, all with interstate riders competing, including first and second from the Gillman Sidecar Championship, Rick Stephens/Nick O'Brien and Max Howse/Riley Commons.
Admission prices will be adults $25, concession $20, and children (under 16) free.
